Meet the Team

Jack Tatar, CEO and President of Research, brings over 20 years of experience in the retail, entertainment, and financial services to GEM’s research services. He is a frequent speaker at conferences ranging from customer relationship management, innovative market research approaches and marketing to the online consumer. Jack has also been featured in numerous publications, and has been involved in designing, developing and implementing award winning websites, working with start up businesses and coordinating numerous non profits.

Jack has had an extensive amount of involvement with issues related to the financial services industries while providing a creative approach to addressing solutions in this industry. Jack brings his knowledge of the financial services industry incorporated with his Series 7 and 24 licenses to provide a unique perspective of a working knowledge of the industry to his qualitative studies in financial services.

Jack is a member of the Qualitative Research Consultants Association and is on the Research Advisory Board of the Retirement Income Industry Association.  Jack received his BA from Stony Brook University and his MBA from Pepperdine University. Jack has held executive positions in JP Morgan, Avon Products, and Merrill Lynch.

Jack has authored books based on his innovative research in the area of retirement.  His books ‘Safe 4 Retirement: The Four Keys to A Safe Retirement’ and ‘The 10 Joys of a Safe Retirement’ have both been best sellers in the Personal Finance and Personal Health categories in Amazon.  His new book ‘Having “The Talk” with Your Parents About Retirement” will be published in December 2012.

Kathrin heads up our market analytics department and has over 12 years of qualitative market research experience including study design, data analysis, and presenting research results to executives worldwide. She also has extensive quantitative market research experience. Kathrin’s primary focus is delivering GEM clients clear, actionable insight from the research projects that the firm leads.

Prior to joining GEM Research Solutions, Kathrin was a managing director at Orion Consultants, a consulting firm providing market research to the fixed income and foreign exchange departments of global investment banks. While at Orion, Kathrin led the firm’s efforts in innovating its research product offering and was also responsible for the firm’s relationship with a global German investment bank.

Kathrin holds an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University.

Ryan has been with GEM Research Solutions since 2010. He is a graduate from The College of New Jersey with a BA in Business with a focus on market research. Ryan was an intern with GEM Research Solutions and after his graduation, he has steadily progressed in the company. Ryan handles all size projects and all facets of our research projects. His moderating expertise has ranged from the youth market to doing executive interviews for large size businesses.
Sam heads up our growing Los Angeles office of GEM Research Solutions. Sam is also responsible for our ideation and brainstorming services.

He has over 25 years of experience in businesses with vast experience in both the youth and senior markets. He has conducted research in many industries with a focus on youth related products, entertainment, retirement, volunteering and with non profits.

Sam also has an extensive amount of experience in political research and survey techniques to reach the hard to reach respondents.  He has an MBA from Pepperdine University.  If you’re on the West Coast and are looking for a research solution to suit your needs and budgets, Sam is committed to finding you a solution that works for your goals and objectives.

Wendy Price has worked with Jack Tatar for nearly a decade. GEM is proud of our unique and valued relationship with WHP Research which allows us to provide our clients with access to Wendy’s services. Wendy is a valued researcher on both qualitative and quantitative research projects.   She has more than 25 years of experience in quantitative and qualitative market research, including design, analysis, implementation, program development, training, business planning, focus group moderation, executive interviewing, and presentations.

Before founding WHP Research in 2002, Wendy was the Research Director at HMSHost Corporation (a former division of Marriott Corporation), where she managed all of the research efforts for Food and Beverage and Retail Concessions at over 150 airports, travel plazas, shopping centers, and entertainment venues. She also designed and executed company-wide mystery shopping and customer response programs. Wendy worked nearly 13 years at Marriott Corporation and HMSHost, conducting research that has led to many of the branded concepts now commonly found at airports and travel plazas.

Wendy also directed marketing research projects at Capital One and General Mills and has worked at Elrick & Lavidge, Market Facts and two advertising agencies.

Wendy earned a Masters of Marketing Research (MMR) from the University of Georgia in Athens and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing (BS) from Indiana University in Bloomington. She is a graduate of the Leadership Excellence Institute, a certified Focus Group Moderator, and has spoken at many industry conferences. She has been an active member of the American Marketing Association since 1985 and the Airport Minority Advisory Council since 2002.

Through our valued partnership with Vroom Research Group, we have access to the services of one of the world’s leading market researchers and web usability experts, Brian Vroom.  Mr. Vroom has been conducting qualitative research internationally for over a decade.  He’s a leader in web usability research and has lectured extensively on the topic at universities such as McGill University in Canada.  Mr. Vroom’s expertise is available for all size businesses through GEM Research Solutions.
